Amongst the many views and opinions by different groups of people, there are the Immigrant's Views and Opinions.
For Mexicans, life is generally quite hard where they come from. So America is a very attractive place for these Mexicans. Life seems so much better there; in America they have everything! Healthcare, jobs, education, housing, and mainly the opportunity they can get there. America, they feel, presents freedom to them, they don't have to worry about what they say because they can have freedom of speech and political rights.
But most of the time, once the people cross the border (if they manage it) and reach America, it isn't as wonderful as it seemed from a distance. For one thing, they are always going to face problems. The jobs they get will be low paying ones, and they will be hard! Also, they will always face the problem of racism from white Americans who feel that the Mexicans are stealing their jobs or even just bringing problems into the country (For further information, please see Negative American Views and Opinions)
Below are a list of Push and Pull factors which forces Mexicans to migrate to America:
- Not enough jobs
- Political fears
- Few opportunities
- Natural disasters
- Unhappy life
- Shortage of food
- Better way of life
- Chances of a job
- Improved living conditions
- Better housing
- Medical care
- Family links
There are currently 5.3 million undocumented Mexican immigrants living in the United States. Over one in every two Mexican immigrants reside in the U.S. illegally. This is amazing compared to the fact that only one in every six immigrants from other countries is illegal.
